Civitella del Tronto: How a "blind" local council justifies questionable decisions with "creative" ideas to navigate prohibitions and closures. The road beneath the crag was miraculously opened for a festival... then immediately shut down again. We have no idea when we'll be able to pass or climb there again.

The entertainment in the Teramo region is now synonymous with an impressive number of village festivals. A growing number of new events have joined the historic ones, saturating the entire summer calendar and celebrating every product this land has to offer, often with grotesque outcomes. The basic idea is always the same: eat, drink, and listen to terrible music—a motto not so different from the three "F"s of the Bourbons or, if we prefer, the panem et circenses of ancient Rome. After all, man is always the same, and history repeats itself. So far, so good.
However, it seems that the glorious days when a picturesque setting like the fortress and village of Civitella del Tronto was used for cultural initiatives, theatrical events, and historical reenactments are long gone. Today, the fortress serves as a backdrop for the craft beer festival at best. This article obviously doesn't aim to demonize this specific event, which deserves to be supported and stands out amidst the general mediocrity or even absence of other proposals and alternatives. Instead, it aims to highlight the serious shortcomings of a local council that pays little attention to a series of long-standing problems and to the valorization of its territory. The situation is made even more infuriating by the fact that roadblocks and bans were miraculously removed precisely for the "salvific" festival.

Specifically, we're talking about the climbing area at the Rocca dei Borboni, but the arbitrarily "solved" situations are unfortunately numerous!
The history of this rock climbing area has been particularly troubled in recent years. The erratic pattern of closures alternating with "conditional" openings and various rounds of questionable works has triggered a wave of criticism and doubts about the crag's future. The latest chapter in these closures—caused by a boulder that seemed deliberately placed in the middle of the road—began in September 2024 and, with surprising inertia, dragged on until the start of the festival.
This was an entirely unexpected inaction, considering that fierce protests were anticipated from residents or from the numerous construction sites for which that road was strategic! It was reasonable to assume that even some "delegation" of climbers might courageously join the chorus of indignation... Evidently, none of this happened, or the complaints went unheard. So, kudos to the beer festival for providing the council with a pretext to grandly reopen a road that had been closed for months—complete with decorative lights!
And the climbing area? Maybe it will be made "usable" again—even if the recent choices don't seem to be heading in that direction. And the poor climbers, after having lived with streetlights, crack meters, cables, and festive lights, will now find themselves confined in a kind of "cage," thanks to the concrete curbs that finally make the passage "safe"... at least until the council's next "diabolical scheme"... or the next festival!

Considerazioni indiscutibilmente vere!
