Monte Leano - Povero Elia P1

Monte Leano - Povero Elia L1
Monte Leano, primi anni '70: Paolo "Picchio" Zitti sul primo tiro di Povero Elia
ar. Paolo Zitti

Monte Leano, early 70s

Paolo "Picchio" Zitti after passing the crux of the first pitch of Povero Elia, a magnificent 6-pitch, 120-meter route, that Bruno (Dado) Morandi and Franco Cravino established in 1960.

At that time, the famous "moving flake" (a wobbly flake, to be clear!) that simplified the climb up the dihedral had already fallen off, so they used aid to get past it (clearly visible in the photo).

For the record, it's said that this flake was re-glued multiple times, but it always fell off, and now it's gone for good. You really have to make a long reach to the bigger flake higher up. The pitch has still been very appreciated over the last 60 years, as the rock has become particularly greasy...
