Description
It's a recently equipped cliff, the first lines were equipped in 2006, the place is never crowded and the potential is still very high. Given the relatively poor frequentation on some pitch you can find a bit of vegetation, however a couple of times a year housekeeping of the most popular pitches is practiced . The areas of the cliff of Stilo are all on the walls of the South -East of Mount Consolino, sectors Pilastrino, Gaia and partially Grotta are shaded by pine trees, while the sectors Calabria esaudita, and Città del Sole are sunny in the morning and during summer should be in shadow at 14:30. Access is very simple and takes only a few minutes walk away, especially in the sector Gaia, the base of the walls is convenient and comfortable for children, the landscape in areas without trees is pleasant, and allows you to admire the valley Stilaro to the beaches of Monasterace. The rock is a beautiful gray and white limestone, carved by the elements (cracks and pockets), while in Grotta rock is mostly overhanging, full of tufas and concretions, with streaks of red limestone for the presence of iron oxides. The single pitches are all sports, equipped with 10 mm stainless steel fixes, with the exception of three routes of the sector Gaia fix equipped with 8 mm. The belays are all equipped with chains (mostly steel) and 10 mm quick links. GPS coverage and phone signal are good in all areas.
